DJ Jason: From Penn State to Philadelphia
I have been working at Cutting Edge Entertainment since 2003, and upon graduating from high school, I chose to attend Penn State University. In less than eight months I will be graduating, and in my four years here in State College I have gained a significant market share of the DJ work. I must say I owe a great deal of my success to Cutting Edge and the things I’ve learned from their talented staff. While in high school, DJ Richie taught me everything I know about mixing music and song selection, while Craig taught me to look at the big picture, ensuring the overall success of the event. I have learned about many aspects of the entertainment industry from Cutting Edge, and have applied my knowledge to book my own functions in State College. Currently, I am DJing at two bars in the area – Tony’s Big Easy and The Lion’s Den. I also work for the University on numerous fundraisers and events for student organizations. I have donated my services to philanthropies such as ‘THON’ (The Penn State Dance Marathon), and ‘WE ARE’ Curing Autism Now 5K Race. I am DJing four nights a week and keeping up with all current music (but certainly not forgetting the classics). I began making my own remixes to songs and have gotten very creative with my mixes and song selection.
I’m extremely excited to be graduating in May, and looking forward to coming back to Cutting Edge on a more full time basis, giving me the opportunity to utilize my new skills. I was recently promoted to an MC at CEE and have been continually honing my microphone skills and becoming more proficient at overall event planning while at Penn State. All in all, I have been successful as a DJ, which is a pretty impressive feat when you are in a town with over 40,000 students, and now with the iPod, everyone is considering themselves a DJ. I owe most if not all of my achievements as a DJ to Cutting Edge Entertainment and their amazing, talented, and well trained staff.
