The Union Trust Philadelphia Wedding of Lindsay and Andrey
Lindsay and Andrey’s wedding reception was held on Friday, February 10th at the Union Trust in Philadelphia, and they chose Cutting Edge Entertainment to provide the DJ and music. Although Union Trust is a newer venue, we’ve already done quite a few parties, events and of course wedding receptions there, and looking at our upcoming calendar of events it looks like we have many more coming in the months ahead.
I met with Lindsay and Andrey a few weeks prior to their wedding. We call this meeting the “wrap-up meeting”, because it’s where we go over all the final details with the couple regarding their wedding reception and the role we are expected to play. We go over a comprehensive time line with our clients in order to help them plan the exact order of all of the formalities, while reviewing all of their music selections as well. Each wedding is different and it is very important that we take the time to get to know the bride and groom in order to best serve them. I want to learn what kind of music they like, and more importantly which kinds they don’t like. One of my goals for each wedding I do is to make sure I give the bride and groom the wedding that they have envisioned. This is a big day in both of their lives, and I make it my mission to make their wedding even better than they could have imagined.
Once we completed the formal introductions, the bride and groom took center stage for their first dance as husband and wife. After the formalities ended, dinner was brought out by the catering staff. As the Wedding DJ, I’m always pleased to see well-fed guests as this group was going to need their energy because once dinner was over, it’s time to celebrate. I usually open up the dance floor with a slow song, with some of my favorite selections to open up with being ‘The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra or “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. Within seconds of playing these songs, the dance floor begins to fill with couples. Once the slow song ends we slam right in with some great dancing tunes. A common question I get asked is, “How do you mix up the music?” The answer: each wedding is different, so the music I play at one wedding might be totally different from another wedding. I usually try to start the night by playing older music from the 60s and 70s and then as the night progresses I play more current selections. I think this way makes the most sense, because older guests often leave earlier in the night. I also feel that younger guests have no problem dancing to older music from the sounds of Motown, Funk, and disco, however the majority of older people don’t always dance to newer pop music or Hip Hop. But as I mentioned before, all weddings are different and these details are discussed in great detail before the reception with the bride, the groom and their Wedding DJ.
The bride and groom – Lindsay and Andrey – were wonderful to work with. They are blessed to have such an amazing group of family and friends that clearly loved to dance and celebrate with them their wedding day, which made the party a great time for all. Of course it’s always a privilege to work at the Union Trust and with the awesome folks from Finley Catering. The Photographer for the day was the very awesome Nina Lily Photography. Finally, a big thank you to Lindsay and Andrey for having us DJ the wedding. Congratulations, and all the best to you both in your future together as husband and wife!
