The Wedding of Amanda and Chris
On a beautiful Sunday in May, I traveled out to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to DJ the wedding of Amanda and Chris. After passing many Amish people on horse and carriage, we finally arrived to the Inn at Leola Village. This was my first time working at this venue, but just like all weddings I arrived two hours prior to the start of the wedding. It is always important for us to arrive early, so we can take time for set-up, sound check and of course to get psyched up for the job ahead.
It seems to be more and more common to have wedding ceremonies at the reception venue. When this is the case we always offer to provide microphones for the officiant and for any special readers. For this wedding we also provided a microphone for the groom, as he sang a song he had written for the bride. Once the ceremony ended, cocktail hour started. I was able to place a speaker close to the bar and made sure the music was at a low background conversational volume. At the end of cocktail hour, guests made their way into the ballroom. At the same time, I headed out to the lobby to line up the parents and the bridal party. As I lined them all up, I also did a last minute name check to ensure I would be pronouncing all of the names correctly. Since the introductions are the first thing we do, I do my best to make sure they are as high energy as possible in order to set the tone for the rest of the evening. I always encourage brides and grooms to pick out songs that their guests can clap and get excited to. When Amanda and Chris came in the room erupted with cheers as they walked in with big smiles.
After dinner concluded the celebration truly began, as the bride and groom took to the dance floor with all their friends and family surrounding them. DJ Joe and I played the dance classics from all eras, including many of the biggest hits of today like “Moves Like Jagger” from Maroon 5 and the extremely catchy “Call Me Maybe” Carly Rae Jepsen.
I once again had the privilege of working with Lauren and Tim of Lauren Fair Photography. Who were pulling double duty not only as photographers but also as invited guests. It is always fun to watch fellow industry professionals out on the dance floor having a good time.
Thank you so much to Amanda and Chris for letting me be a part of your wedding celebration and choosing me as your Wedding DJ. I had a blast working with and getting to know the both of you, and wish you all the best in your life as husband and wife.
