Being The Best from A Philadelphia DJ

On my way home from work last night I stopped in at my local Wawa at Philmont Avenue and Byberry Road (Wawa is the best convenience store ever created for those of you not from the Philly area).   While I was checking out, I bumped into one of my competitors… the owner of another local DJ company.  I won’t mention his name, but he is someone I have always admired in a way, yet his ‘philosophy’ is really somewhat different than mine.

Now I have touched on this subject in a video I created (Click Here) where I discuss the Cutting Edge Entertainment philosophy – or approach – on how we view our business and work with our customers, but I think it needs reiterating based on my conversation with this DJ.

In a nutshell, he confidently stated that he believes his DJs (he, and the DJs who work for his company) to be the best in the business, and better than other DJs in Philadelphia by far.  At first I tried to debate him, not from the standpoint of my DJs being better than his (a purely speculative statement) but because I have always felt that by thinking ones self ‘the best’ is never wise, as the best in any field most often strive to improve and be better.

It is my belief that in an industry that is ever changing it is unwise to consider yourself an expert.  You may be very good at what you do, but you must always strive to be better, to learn new techniques.  At Cutting Edge Entertainment we are constantly evolving and changing to meet the times.  To think yourself better, or ‘the best’ is to rest on your laurels and become stagnant.

Being ‘the best’ also requires an adaptability to the situation.  Each client has different wants and needs, even if they are ever so slight.  No formula can allow the flexibility to provide ‘the best’ job for different clients.  At Cutting Edge Entertainment we view each client as unique and approach each event, reception and situation with that in mind.  If by doing this – by customizing and listening to our clientele it makes us better than the competition is not for us to proclaim, but for our customers to decide.

“Best” is a very subjective term.

To be honest, hearing this conversation from this “professional” in the business tells me, he needs to get out of the house more often.

    lol
