Robyn and Jeff’s Pyramid Club Wedding

Part of our job as a Wedding DJ here at Cutting Edge is getting to know our bride and grooms. We become friends, gain each others trust, and plan a kick-ass party together. Over the years, many of my brides and grooms have met via different online services. It’s almost near a 50% ratio lately, which surprises many people that ask me. I must say, as an unbiased third party I’m a believer in these sites. Robyn and Jeff are some of the most genuine people I have had the pleasure of meeting.

While meeting with them to discuss the details of their reception, we discussed their concerns about the diversity of their guests. They had a lot of music that they liked which perhaps wouldn’t be a DJ’s “go to” to pack the dance floor. Planning out the music together, we were able to design a flow to the music that not only got people on the dance floor, but was able to get all of their requests in that they thought might not work. Personalizing the music for a party is one of my favorite things about being a DJ.

This was the first time I had worked at the Pyramid Club, and the room was intimate and beautiful, with a breathtaking view of the city for the guests to enjoy. From the moment Robyn and Jeff were introduced into the room to “Your Smiling Face” by James Taylor complimented by their own bright smiling faces, the tone was set for the entire reception. The Jewish side of the family quickly pulled everyone in the room to share in a traditional Hora dance, which served as a great icebreaker for the guests. Everyone there had a cool relaxed vibe. For those currently planning their wedding, they know this is hard to pull off while planning your table assignments.

The crowd was dancing from everything from Motown oldies, to some Old School hip-hop, 80’s club classics, and new chart busters on the radio. It was a fantastic crowd that goes to show you that having a diverse crowd in an intimate setting is not something to be worried about. Not long after the wedding, I received this note via email from the bride and groom…

You f’ing rock!  Jeff and I were SO, SO happy with the job you did on Saturday night!

As you know, the music was really special to us, as I’m sure it is to most… and we put a lot of time into selecting the songs we really wanted to hear.  We didn’t know if it would be possible to hear them, since you have to play to a crowd and not just us!… but you managed to get them in!  We heard all the songs we wanted to hear for dinner and for dancing… and it was absolutely perfect!!

We truly had the most amazing night of our lives on Saturday, as cheesy as that sounds!  But it’s true – I don’t think we could have imagined how happy we’d feel… and just as a great soundtrack is key to any great movie, you made our ‘wedding soundtrack’ perfect!
