A Bride, a Groom, a DJ & a Philadelphia Wedding
Matt and Vanessa’s wedding was held at the Pyramid Club in Center City, Philadelphia. The Pyramid Club is located fifty stories up, and offers breathtaking views of the entire Philadelphia skyline. This was one of my favorite weddings that I did this past year, and the biggest reason why, was because of the bride and groom. I had met the bride and groom a few months earlier, and right from the start I got a great, fun vibe from the couple. The bride and groom, Vanessa and Matt, met each other at work. They both work at the Philadelphia affiliate of ABC television, producing Action News. After dating for a while and moving in together, Matt popped the question to Vanessa.
We started the day by providing a microphone and up lighting for their ceremony. Once the ceremony was over, guests moved on to cocktail hour. The drinks were flowing and people were grabbing some delicious hors d’ oeuvres. Afterward, we opened up the ballroom, which looked amazing with up lighting that had the whole room glowing in a blue hue, which accented the view of the city skyline. Once everyone was seated we began the introductions, followed by the first dance. We then surprised everyone by going immediately into a long hora. This worked out great and was a great kick-start to the evening’s festivities. Dinner was awesome; the staff at the Pyramid Club did a wonderful job with their service and food.
Once dinner concluded we transitioned to dancing mode. I usually open up the dance floor with a slow song, with some of my favorite songs to open up with being Summer Wind by Frank Sinatra or Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley. Within seconds of playing these songs, the dance floor begins to fill with couples. Once the slow song ends we slam right in with some great dancing tunes. A common question I get asked is, “How do you mix up the music?” The answer: each wedding is different, so the music I play at one wedding might be totally different from another wedding. I usually try to start the night by playing older music from the 60s and 70s and then as the night progresses I play more current selections. I think this way makes the most sense, because older guests often leave earlier in the night. I also feel that younger guests have no problem dancing to older music from the sounds of Motown, Funk, and disco, however the majority of older people don’t always dance to newer pop music or Hip Hop. But as I mentioned before, all weddings are different and this is discussed in great detail before the wedding with the bride and groom and their DJ.
I was so happy to work at the Pyramid Club, as their staff is top notch, and had every detail covered. This was also my first time working with Cindy from Cindy Guessford Photography. I’m very grateful that she provided us with these incredible images. She is a great photographer and I am a big fan of her work. I also got to work with Abominable Productions. They are amazing videographers and the trailer they put together looks like a Hollywood movie. Video is something I would recommend to all wedding couples. To have something to show your grandchildren thirty or forty years from now is just so cool. I could only imagine seeing a video of my grandparent’s wedding and seeing all the difference from back then to today as far as the music, the fashion, the hair dos, and just seeing my grandparents in their earlier years is something I wish I could do.

This is great! Thanks so much Richie for the kind words and fantastic job at our wedding. Just as impressive as Cindy’s work was in photography and Jim & Amy’s was in videography/editing, you were phenomenal in running the show, keeping everyone entertained and making the place look great with lighting. We spent a lot of time beforehand researching which vendors were the absolute best, and Cutting Edge was worth every penny. Obviously the dance floor was packed all night, but one of the things I appreciate most is how open you were to actually listening to what Vanessa & I wanted — flow wise, music choices, etc. We loved your passion for music and having those pre-meeting chats about great songs. Thanks for making our day so special.
