The Wedding of Jessica and Brendan at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia
It was the end of July 2018 when I had the opportunity to DJ the wedding of Jessica and Brendan. The wedding reception took place at the Crystal Tea Room in Center City Philadelphia. A couple weeks prior to the wedding I had the chance to meet with the bride and groom, to go over all the details of the wedding. We had a great time going over the music, and picking out songs for the bridal party’s “Grand Entrance” as well as creating a time line. Creating a time line is crucial to ensuring the evening has a seamless flow. Meeting with my clients before the wedding is by far my favorite part of my job. Being able to get excited with them, and assure them that everything is going to run smoothly and be lots of fun. Each wedding is different and it is very important that we take the time to get to know the bride and groom in order to best serve them. I want to learn what kind of music they like, and more importantly which kinds they don’t like. One of my goals for each wedding I do is to make sure I give the bride and groom the wedding that they have envisioned. This is a big day in both of their lives, and I make it my mission to make their wedding even better than they could have imagined.
This was a great crowd to DJ for, as the dance floor was packed full as soon as dinner ended. I usually start my first dance set with music geared to older guests, and play some oldies, Motown, Disco, and Funk. As the evening progresses, I typically segue into the more current hits. The reason I do it this way is because older guests are the ones that tend to leave earlier in the night. I’ve found that younger people – for the most part – will dance to music from all generations, while many (not all) older guests are often more reluctant to dance to popular music of today. As the Wedding DJ, it is my job to play music and get guests of all generations out there during the course of the reception. Jessica and Brendan were dancing most of the night, and their family and friends were right out there with them.
The bride and groom – Jessica and Brendan – were wonderful to work with. They are blessed to have such an amazing group of family and friends that clearly loved to dance and celebrate with them their wedding day, which made the party a great time for all. Of course it’s always a privilege to work at the Crystal Tea Room and with the awesome folks from Finley Catering. The Photographer for the day were the very awesome folks from Duca Studio. I want to thank them for letting us share some of their fantastic images on our blog.
