The Curtis Center Wedding of Ashley and Michael
The majority of effort that goes into planning and executing a fantastic wedding reception is completed before a single song gets played. During the planning process, the staff at Cutting Edge Entertainment will ask a variety of probing questions to align our own wedding expertise with the vision of our clients. When I first meet a new client I make it known that in my experience as a Wedding DJ, the most successful wedding receptions are the result of finding the perfect balance between “classy” and “fun”. It’s important for the event to be a true celebration, crammed with cheering, singing, dancing, joy and making merry, with a dash of silliness; but “traditional” in the sense that weddings come with a particular set of expectations. The wedding of Ashley and Michael last July is the perfect example of an event that found the proverbial “sweet spot”.
On July 25, 2015 in the Atrium at the Curtis Center in Center City Philadelphia, Ashley and Michael – along with their friends and family – shook the floor, celebrated and made every “selfie” count. From the introductions that included classic songs like the 1970s hit “Still the One” by Orleans and the even more well known “Oh, What A Night” by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons for their parents and a variety of Jay-Z and Beyonce tracks for the Bridal Party… this couple knew how to make it work. The musical curve ball of the evening came when they selected “Candy Shop” by 50 Cent to begin their Cake Cutting ceremony, but switched to “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard to keep the mood light and fun while adhering to the “sweet, candy, dessert” topic of song bearing relevance to the moment.
After a delicious dinner and a few more formalities it was time to take over the dance floor. As a Wedding DJ, one of the greatest barometers for success is when the furthest and most remote corners of the floor are packed with bodies enjoying every beat, which was certainly the case here. Ashley took advantage of the fun with her selfie-stick and captured many moments from her own perspective, including a few images with yours truly.
