The Madison Wedding of Heather and Brian

Every so often I have the honor of being the Wedding DJ for a good friend’s wedding. That was the case on January 19th, when I packed my gear up and headed to New Jersey for Brian and Heather’s wedding. I have known for Brian for nearly twenty years, ever since he started working at Cutting Edge Entertainment. We started together at Cutting Edge all the way back in the 90s as young assistants, learning from the older DJs. Now our roles are reversed and we are the older DJs teaching the next generation of young guys.

The wedding and reception were held at The Madison, in Riverside, NJ. We provided all of the music for the ceremony, as well as a microphone for the officiant. When the ceremony concluded, the guests entered the house for cocktail hour. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and drinks, while we provided background music from the likes of Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, and Colbie Caillat. After this hour was up, the ballroom was opened and guests took their seats. Just outside the room I quickly lined up a very excited bride and groom, going over how they would make their entrances.

Once we introduced, the bride and groom took the center stage for their first dance as husband and wife. After the formalities ended dinner was brought out by the staff. As the DJ, I’m always please to see well-fed guests, as this group was going to need their energy, because once dinner was over it’s time to celebrate. Like most of my weddings, this was a great group who were out on the dance floor all night, singing along while I played “I Want You Back” by the Jackson Five, and twisting the night away with “The Twist” by Chubby Checker, and pumping their fists in the air as we went into “Blurred Lines” from Robin Thicke. A great party with only one negative side effect at the end, a lot of sore feet; quite common when dancing for two hours straight.

The photographer for the evening (and the entire wedding) was the very talented Kevin York. Over the past few years I have gotten to know Kevin – who is an awesome photographer – and someone I consider a good friend.
