Animal Lifeline: Barking and Walking for a Cause
It was early, it was cold and it didn’t matter because the cause gave everyone a warm feeling they won’t soon forget. Delaware Valley College (in Doylestown (Bucks County), PA) hosted the 2nd Annual Dog Day 5K benefit with Animal Lifeline, a local organization dedication to raising funds and finding homes for dogs and cats. It was a wonderful sight to see all of the volunteers, runners and other participants ready to support such a noble cause. Although the winners received prizes for their accomplishments (cool Olympic-style medals), it was their furry friends – especially those without homes- who were the true winners.
Doggies of all shapes, sizes and colors were on hand to help their fellow four-legged friends find homes. Although as the DJ I was pretty much supplying background music (mostly “pump” music to get the participants hyped for a brisk morning run) and the obligatory playback of “Who Let The Dogs Out” (of course), it allowed me the opportunity to learn more about some of the vendors and services they provide. Many of the sponsors were local to the Doylestown area, including local animal hospitals and various shops willing to donate their time and supplies.
As a pet owner – my family includes an Orange Tabby Cat, the cutest Cocker Spaniel in the world and a hippity-hop (aka, a bunny!) – this was an event very close to my heart. My parents have also adopted two female cats and my brother has two males of his own and coincidentally manages an animal hospital in New Jersey. In addition, many of our staff at Cutting Edge have pets, many of which are also rescue animals (my boss even took in a stray). And those co-workers of mine who don’t (Richie, Adam), well, if I have my way it’s just a matter of time. 🙂
Congratulations to the race winners and good luck providing a home for our friends who have yet to find one.
Animal Lifeline has a base located in Warrington, Pennsylvania (Bucks County) where you can make donations, as well as learn about their pet adoption services.
And a big thank you to Photographer Jeff Reeder for these truly amazing images.
